Bill Jackson |
Bill Jackson started
collecting Indian Artifacts back in the early 1950's as a youngster in
rural Kentucky . Bill founded Jackson Galleries as an antique shop in
North Hollywood, California in 1966. He sold his first arrowhead that year
(a Dovetail he says he still wants back!) for $10. Over the years Jackson
Galleries evolved and grew until ultimately, in 1989, Bill and his wife
Donna went full time with their mail order artifact business. During their
tenure they have sold artifacts, collecting supplies and reference
materials, and provided other artifact related services, to over 6,000
individual customers.
Around 1991 Bill started his Authentication Service. As a true innovator, Bill Jackson is the man who brought microscopes to the authentication process. Through the study of post-depositional surface modification, Bill has become quite adept at spotting fakes. He says with his methods one can truly arrive at a conclusion regarding authenticity - based on true scientific evidence - not just express an opinion based on provenance, construction characteristics, flaking patterns, correct material for the area, etc., - which all unfortunately can be faked. Bill's specialty is prehistoric flint. He also does slate, stone, and some pottery. His fee is $20.00 per item plus return postage and insurance. For that he will either issue a certificate with a color photo of the artifact imprinted (making faking and/or altering of the document virtually impossible) or he will execute a detailed letter explaining what it was he found that he didn't like. Since Bill began his Authentication Service he has authenticated nearly 10,000 relics. Bill has also personally sold microscopes to (and/or trained) over 200 collectors and dealers on the subtleties of microscopic examination in the authentication process. Bill is a Board Member of the AACA, Genuine Indian Relic Society, Central States, Green River, and The Ohio Archaeological Societies. Over the years, Bill has participated in archaeological seminars, and relic shows throughout the country, and also archaeological events sponsored by the University of Kentucky and numerous Universities in California. Jim Fisher

Jim has been surface collecting
authentic lithic artifacts for over 25 years in Western New York, where he
currently resides. As a youngster he was intrigued by the stone tools
that he was able to find in the fields near his home. His fascination with
lithic tools and New York State's prehistory eventually brought him to the
University of Buffalo where in 1988 he earned a B.A. degree in Anthropology
with a Specialization in Archaeology. Jim's formal studies at UB included
training in lithic analysis and stone tool typology under the guidance of
Dr. Sarunas Milisauskas. The focus of his undergraduate work was on the
archaeology of the New World, specifically Eastern North America.
In the years since Jim completed his graduate work he has been
experimenting with stone tool reproduction techniques. He has studied
under master flintknapper Dan Long and credits this experience for
providing a wealth of knowledge about aboriginal methods of stone tool
manufacture, the numerous lithic materials from which tools are made, and
the subtleties of projectile point morphology. His understanding of
lithic typology and abilities as a stone tool craftsman have earned him
four awards of excellence.
Jim is a member of the
New York State Archaeological Association-Houghton Chapter,
the American Society for Amateur Archaeology, the
Authentic Artifact Collectors
Association , and the Genuine Indian
Relic Society (GIRS). In addition to writing articles for
Indian Artifact Magazine, he
serves as a Northeast Regional Members Support Contact for the AACA.
Jim offers an
Authentication Service
for lithic artifacts from the Northeastern U.S. and Ontario.
Each authentication is $15.00 plus the cost of return shipping and
insurance. Authenticated artifacts receive a certificate printed on
quality 8 1/2" X 11" bond paper. A color image of the artifact is
imprinted on the certificate.
